| When useful | When you run out of blades for your mechanical razor. |
You can restore the edges on the mechanical razor blade by honing the blade backward and forward on the inside of a glass tumbler, keeping the edges of the blade parallel to the axis of the tumbler.
A slight pressure on the middle of the blade will adjust the angle at which the blade rubs on the glass, and control the final shape given to the edge.
This skill was widely used in Europe during World-War II, when razor blades were rationed and in short supply.
