The basic idea of making home movies is the same now as it was back then, but the equipment used has changed. I remember my father recording birthdays and parties with his Super 8 cine camera, which had a huge bright light on the front of it. He'd then send the film cartridges away to be processed, and then edit them together on spools with a splicer and sticky tape. Finally the edited movie would be loaded onto a cine reel and fed through the projector while we all sat in a darkened room and watched the blurry picture.
