| Went Obsolete | Early 2000s - however it still is not completely obsolete. Just bought a 2007 Dodge with manual windows. Skill is still in use. My 2004 Ford Ranger has it as do many fleet vehicles in production today. It's fun to watch my neices/nephews try to figure it out as they never had seen it before. |
| Made Obsolete By | Electrical window motors |
| Knowledge Assumed | Manual hand cranking |
| When useful | If you need some fresh air or you needed to pay *cash* at a toll road…drive thrus? |
* Exceedingly useful when the electrical power stops due to submersion in water!
This assumes the car features a hand crank to roll the window up or down. If you're on the left side of the vehicle, grab the crank and rotate it clockwise to roll down the window, counterclockwise to roll it back up; the right side cranks in the opposite direction.
