Remember when High Capacity meant 1.44MB? And then you wanted to move 6MB from your lab computer to your home machine? You likely had a case of floppies in your bag, one of which had the indispensable ZIP, ARC, or RAR application on it. Plop in that first disk and fire up the command line help to get your switches right as you started to ZIP up those files.
